Austria focuses on a high press and verticality to dominate games. They operate within a 3-4-3 formation that prioritizes winning the ball high up the pitch. This lineup is built to move from a defensive block to an attacking phase with incredible speed, using the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition and create gaps in the middle.

A. Schlager stays in goal to command the area and organize the back three. Lienhart sits in the center of the defensive unit as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back. Danso acts as the right centre-back where he can win the header and cover the space behind the midfield. Friedl operates on the left as the left centre-back to maintain a narrow defensive block. The unit stays compact to deny the turn to any incoming strikers.

In the middle of the pitch, the team uses a double pivot consisting of Seiwald and X. Schlager. Seiwald acts as the player who shields the defence and works to win the second ball in the middle third. X. Schlager works to connect the defensive and attacking lines by moving the ball forward. P. Wimmer and Laimer act as the wide midfielders who provide much of the team width. They are expected to overlap the winger and also track back to support the back three.

The attacking unit features C. Baumgartner as the lone centre-forward who works to hold up the ball and find the feet of the striker in tight spaces. M. Sabitzer plays on the right wing and often looks to cut inside to create more central threats. R. Schmid occupies the left wing to stretch the defence and pull wide to deliver crosses. These three forwards press from the front to force a long ball and win the ball back quickly for Austria.

A significant tactical strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The positioning of the three attackers and the wide midfielders allows the team to squeeze the space in the final third. Additionally, the speed of transition is a major asset. Once the ball is intercepted, the players can quickly switch play to find M. Sabitzer or R. Schmid in one on one situations.
