Boca looks to control the tempo and dominate the central areas of the pitch with a 3-5-2. This formation is built to play a high press and use a strong central presence to dictate the game. By filling the middle of the field, Boca aims to win the ball back high up the pitch and transition quickly through the center.
L. Brey acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back line operates as a back three consisting of M. Pellegrino, R. Battaglia, and L. Di Lollo. M. Pellegrino and L. Di Lollo provide cover on the sides, while R. Battaglia works to win the headers and command the central area. This defensive unit aims to stay compact and hold a high line to squeeze the space between the lines.
The midfield features a single pivot with M. Delgado sitting deep to shield the defense. Ahead of him, L. Blondel and M. Braida act as two inverted eights who connect the defense to the attack. J. Saralegui and V. Taborda operate in the half spaces as attacking midfielders to create numbers in the final third. This midfield group works to win the second ball and recycle possession to move the team up the pitch.
Boca uses two forwards in a partnership with E. Cavani and M. Giménez leading the line. E. Cavani is a known leader on the pitch and uses his positioning and link up play to hold up the ball for others. M. Giménez works alongside him to make runs in behind the opposition defense. The two attackers press the opposition back line to force long balls, allowing the midfield to regain control.
A major advantage for Boca is the numerical superiority in midfield which allows them to control the ball. The presence of J. Saralegui and V. Taborda creates wide overloads when they push forward to support the strikers. This formation also provides a very strong central block that makes it difficult for opponents to play through the middle.
This 3-5-2 formation is designed for teams that want to dominate through central control and high pressure. It is best suited for games where the opponent plays a wide game and can be squeezed in the middle.
