Besiktas Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Abraham (Hekimoğlu) · ********* (Fahriay) · Rafa (Mario) · Arroyo (Cankeles) · Demirege (Ricardo kartal) · Gedson (Salih) · Jurasek (Terzi) · Topcu (Felix) · ******** (Necip) · ********** (Pyrazgelen) · Mert (Goktug emiryasar)Besiktas looks to play a very direct and defensively solid brand of football using a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to absorb pressure and rely on a compact block to frustrate the opposition. The main goal is to stay hard to beat and then use the width and pace of the team to strike on the break.
Abraham sits between the posts to guard the goal. The back line operates as a back five to ensure the central areas are locked down. Demirege and Gedson act as the central defenders, where Demirege provides cover and Gedson focuses on winning the second ball. Rafa joins the central unit to add extra presence in the box. The wide defenders Arroyo and the unnamed RWB act as attacking wing backs, tasked with providing width and tracking back to support the defensive line. This unit works to squeeze the space between the lines and maintain a narrow defensive block.
The midfield consists of a four man line designed to protect the back five. Topcu operates as one of the central midfielders, helping to shield the defence and connect the lines. The unnamed RCM works alongside him to help win the ball back in a mid-block. On the flanks, Jurasek and the unnamed RM provide the width in the midfield four. They must track back to help their wing backs and ensure the team stays compact when defending. This midfield unit aims to win possession and immediately find ways to move the ball forward.
In the attacking phase, Mert acts as a lone striker to lead the line. He is tasked to hold up the ball and bring others into play. The attack relies on the width provided by Arroyo and the RWB to stretch the defence. When Besiktas wins the ball, they look to hit in behind on the transition. Jurasek and the unnamed RM can push forward to support Mert, creating combinations to move the ball toward the opposition box. The movement is designed to create runs in behind and allow the team to attack with numbers during a quick break.
One major advantage for Besiktas is the ability to create a very narrow defensive block that is hard to break through centrally. The team also benefits from wide overloads when the wing backs push high to support the wide midfielders. This setup allows the team to switch play quickly and catch opponents out of position during transitions.
The 5-4-1 formation provides a sturdy foundation for a team that prefers to defend deep and counter at pace. This lineup is best suited for matches against dominant teams where sitting deep and absorbing pressure is necessary.
