James operates in the right central channel to carry the ball forward and drive into the half spaces. Enzo Fernández plays as the attacking ten behind the striker, using his passing range to find teammates and progress through the thirds. This trio connects the defensive line to the front three by recycling possession and breaking the line with direct passes.

In the attacking third, Chelsea uses three attackers across the front. Delap serves as a pressing centre-forward who works to pin the last defender and hold up the ball. Neto plays as a wide winger who stays near the touchline to stretch the defense, while Palmer operates as an inverted winger who will cut inside to create chances. These players combine in tight spaces to pull defenders out of position, creating runs in behind for the others to exploit.
