Starting Lineup

Bordeaux relies on a heavy defensive presence and quick transitions through a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before striking with speed. The team looks to stay compact to deny space between the lines, making it difficult for opponents to play through the middle.

HUARD stays on the line to command the area as the goalkeeper. The back line functions as a narrow defensive block with three central defenders. LUCAS acts as the central anchor, while F. HANSEN and DOGON provide coverage on either side. GRENET operates as a right wing back to provide width, whereas LIZARAZU plays as a left wing back to cover the flank. This five man unit is designed to win the second ball and protect the central zone when the team sits deep.

The midfield operates as a three man midfield with a single pivot. DUTUEL sits in front of the back three to shield the defence and pick up runners. CROCI and WITSCHGE occupy the central spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Both CROCI and WITSCHGE are tasked to press in a mid-block to win possession back. When Bordeaux regains the ball, these players look to find the forwards quickly to start a break.

Bordeaux utilizes two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. BANCAREL and THOLOT work together to hold up the ball and prepare for the arrival of runners. These two attackers press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. The wing backs, GRENET and LIZARAZU, push high to provide width and deliver crosses into the box. This movement allows the strikers to play one-two combinations in the final third.

One major advantage for Bordeaux is the compactness when defending in a low block. The narrowness of the three central defenders and the midfield trio makes it hard for teams to find gaps.
