They are responsible for recycling possession and making sure the transition from defence to attack is sharp. This pair must be disciplined to prevent the opposition from bypassing the midfield.

In the attacking phase, Uzbekistan employs four forwards to pin the last defender. MAXIMOV stays wide on the right as an inverted winger who cuts inside to find space, while BERESOVSKY stays on the left to spread the play. LAGUNOV and KOZLOV operate as a strike partnership in the center. LAGUNOV works to hold up the ball, allowing the wingers to move into the box. The duo of LAGUNOV and KOZLOV creates constant pressure on the opposition back line, looking to hit in behind on the transition or receive service from the wide areas.
