Iran National Football Team Formation
Starting Lineup
NADER · SHABANI · MOHAMMADI · MEHRI · RAHIMI · RAZAEL · IMANI · MADANI · HOSSEINI · SAYYADMANESH · MOHAMMADIIran plays an aggressive, high pressing style of football using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to attack with massive numbers and win the ball back high up the pitch. The team aims to catch the opponent out of position through rapid movement and direct play. Such a system allows the players to stay on the front foot and keep the opposition pinned in their own half.
NADER stays in goal to command the area and direct the defenders. The defensive unit operates with a flat back four. MEHRI plays at right back and RAHIMI covers at left back, with both players needing to track back quickly during defensive shifts. MOHAMMADI and SHABANI act as the two central defenders. In this role, MOHAMMADI must cover the space behind the line while SHABANI works to win the header and clear the lines to stop any immediate counter attacks.
In the middle, the team uses a double pivot to control the tempo. IMANI and RAZAEL play as the two central midfielders who link the defense to the attack. One player, IMANI, works to shield the defence and drive forward with the ball to progress through the thirds. RAZAEL focuses on winning the second ball and recycling possession to keep the pressure on the opponent. Together, they must hold a compact shape to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines or finding space in the middle.
The attack is composed of four players across the top. SAYYADMANESH and MOHAMMADI act as wingers on the flanks to provide width. While SAYYADMANESH looks to cut inside and create space in the channels, MOHAMMADI works to get to the byline and whip it in with a cross. HOSSEINI and MADANI operate as a strike partnership in the center. They aim to hit in behind on the transition and find the feet of the striker to break the line and create scoring chances.
This formation provides clear tactical advantages for Iran. The players can create wide overloads when the full backs push up to overlap the winger. There is a high capacity to press high in coordinated waves to force a long ball from the opponent. The dual striker presence allows the team to pin the last defender and stretch the defence, making it difficult for the opposition to mark everyone effectively.
The Iran lineup is a heavy attacking system designed to overwhelm the opposition through sheer numbers. It is most effective against teams that play a high line or struggle to handle intense pressure in their own half.
