Milan aim to play a high tempo game built on rapid transitions and heavy attacking pressure using a 4-2-4. This formation focuses on overwhelming the opposition defense by keeping four players high up the pitch. The goal is to win the ball back quickly and use the directness of the front four to punish any gaps left in the opponent's defensive lines.

In goal, Maignan acts as the last line of defense, often playing a sweeping role to cover for a high defensive line. The back four consists of Dest at left back and Doue at right back, who both push high to support the attack. Leoni and Copolla form the central defensive pairing, with Leoni acting as a ball playing defender to help start the build up. The defensive unit works together to squeeze the space and maintain a high line to prevent the opposition from playing long balls easily.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to provide a layer of protection for the back four. Modric works as a deep lying playmaker, using his exceptional passing range to distribute the ball and recycle possession under pressure. Ricci acts as the carrier, driving forward with the ball to connect the defensive unit with the attack. Together, they work to control the center of the pitch, press in a mid block, and ensure they do not get bypassed during transitions.

The attacking line is extremely aggressive with two center forwards and two wide players. Pulisic and Luca lead the line as the central strike force, looking to make runs in behind or hold up the ball for others. On the flanks, Leao and Chiesa operate as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. Leao uses his dribbling style to beat defenders on the wing, while Chiesa looks to arrive late into the box. This front four is designed to stretch the defence and create constant chaos in the final third.

One major advantage for Milan is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs join the attack. The presence of a double pivot also provides a level of compactness when defending against central counters. By keeping four attackers high, they can also press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition, which Leoni and Copolla can then win in the air.

This 4-2-4 lineup is built for teams that want to dominate through offensive aggression and verticality. It is best suited for matches against opponents who play a high line and can be caught out by speed in transition.
