Monterrey relies on a high press and rapid vertical play through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup looks to win the ball high up the pitch and move it forward quickly to catch the opposition out of position. The goal is to squeeze the space and use the central midfield numbers to dominate the middle of the field.

ANDRADA plays between the posts to organize the back line. A back three consisting of S. MEDINA, J. RODRÍGUEZ, and S. RAMOS provides a solid base. S. MEDINA acts as a right-sided centre back while S. RAMOS covers the left side. J. RODRÍGUEZ sits in the middle to command the area and win headers. This unit can defend in a mid-block or push up to set the offside trap when the team presses high.

The midfield is a crowded area designed to control the game through a five man unit. DEOSSA and Ó. TORRES work as a double pivot to shield the defence and pick up runners. É. AGUIRRE and ARTEAGA operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. S. CANALES plays as an attacking ten behind the two forwards to create chances. This group works to win the second ball and recycle possession to keep the pressure on.

Monterrey uses two forwards in a partnership to stretch the defence. J. CORONA leads the line as a pressing centre forward to force long balls from the opposition. BERTERAME plays alongside him to hold up the ball and link up play with the midfield. The two attackers work in combinations to create runs in behind the back line. When the team attacks, they look to play through the lines or use the central presence of S. CANALES to split the defence.

One major strength of this Monterrey lineup is the numerical superiority in midfield. Having five players in the middle allows the team to compress the midfield and deny the turn to the opposition pivot. The formation also allows for a coordinated high press where the forwards and midfielders trigger a press together to win it back high up the pitch.

This 3-5-2 formation provides a balance of defensive solidity and central dominance. It is best suited for games against teams that try to play through the middle or those that struggle to handle high pressure.
