Starting Lineup

Tickle · Aimson · Kerr · Carragher · Miller · Murray · M.Smith · Adeeko · Saydee · Mullin · Costelloe

Wigan relies on a direct and aggressive style of play using a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup aims to control the central areas of the pitch and hit opponents with quick transitions once the ball is won. The goal is to create chaos in the middle of the park and use a high volume of players to overwhelm the opposition in both halves.

Tickle stays between the posts to organize the defensive line. The back three consists of Aimson, Kerr, and Carragher. Kerr sits in the middle to win the header and command the area, while Aimson and Carragher provide cover on either side. They work together to maintain a compact block and ensure they do not get caught out by long balls. The unit moves as one to squeeze the space when the opposition tries to build play.

The midfield works in a heavy five man block to dominate the central zone. Adeeko acts as the single pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Next to him, M.Smith and Murray occupy the central spaces to help recycle possession. Miller operates as a carrier to drive the ball forward and link the defense to the attack. Saydee plays in the hole as an attacking ten, looking to find gaps in the defensive line and provide final balls to the forwards.

Wigan utilizes two forwards in a partnership to pin the opposition defenders back. Mullin and Costelloe work together to harass the back line and force errors. Mullin often looks to run in behind the defense, while Costelloe helps to hold up the ball and bring others into play. The wide midfielders must provide the width to stretch the defense, allowing the two strikers to find space in the box. This creates constant pressure through combinations and quick movement in the final third.

This formation provides Wigan with significant numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. By packing the center with Adeeko, M.Smith, Miller, Murray, and Saydee, they make it very difficult for opponents to play through the lines. The team also benefits from the ability to quickly transition from a compact defensive block into a dangerous attacking unit.

The 3-5-2 formation allows Wigan to control the tempo through central dominance. It is a setup best suited for games against teams that play with a narrow midfield.
