Inter Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Carnesecchi · Hato · Bastoni · Gravemberch · Ederson · Bisseck · Frattesi · Martinelli · Lautaro · Rovella · SmitInter plays a high press game to win the ball back quickly in a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the center of the pitch and use verticality to hurt the opponent through quick transitions. By pressing high from the front, the team aims to force a long ball or win the ball back in dangerous areas to start an immediate attack.
Carnesecchi acts as the goalkeeper to start the build up. The defense consists of a back three with Bastoni, Hato, and Bisseck. Bastoni plays as a ball playing defender who can step up into midfield to create an extra man, while Bisseck provides aerial strength and covers the right side. Hato holds the left side and helps to sweep behind a high line. The defensive unit works to keep the team compact and maintain a high line to squeeze the space.
The midfield uses a single pivot to control the game. Gravemberch sits in front of the defense to shield the back three and break the lines of the opposition. Ederson and Frattesi operate as the central pairing, where Ederson drives forward with the ball and Frattesi makes late runs into the box. Smit and Rovella provide the width as wide players, stretching the defense and helping to recycle possession. This central core connects the defense to the attack through quick short passes and vertical runs.
The front line relies on two forwards working in a tight partnership. Lautaro is a pressing centre-forward with great positional tendencies and clinical movement. He works alongside Martinelli to pin the last defender. They focus on link up play between the lines and making runs in behind to catch the opposition out. Smit and Rovella push high to support the front two, looking to get to the byline and whip it in to the penalty area.
One major tactical strength of this formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in midfield. This allows the team to win the second ball and control the tempo of the match. Another advantage is the use of wide overloads when the wide players join the attack, which isolates the opposition wingers in one on one situations.
This 3-5-2 formation provides Inter with a very strong central presence and high pressing capability. It is best suited for games against teams that play with a narrow formation and struggle to deal with wide players.
