Al-Hilal (KSA) Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Lajami · Al harbi · K (Al dawsari) · Al yami · R (Neves) · M (Leonardo) · Malcom · Salem · Musab (Juwayr) · Mitro · Al rubaieAl-Hilal aims to play with heavy verticality and high pressure, utilizing a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm opponents in the final third by keeping many players high up the pitch. The goal is to win the ball back high up the pitch and immediately look to exploit the space behind the opposition defensive line.
Al rubaie operates between the posts to guard the goal. The defense sits in a flat back four where Al yami acts as the right back and Al harbi occupies the left back position. These wide defenders are tasked to push high to support the attack. In the center, Lajami and K form the heart of the defense, where Lajami uses his aerial strength to defend crosses and K works to cover the space behind the high line. They must defend zonally to keep the unit compact when the ball is lost.
The midfield functions as a double pivot to provide some security. Musab and R work to connect the defensive line to the attacking players. Musab helps to shield the defense while R tries to carry the ball forward to transition into the attack. This pair must stay disciplined to avoid being bypassed by direct play. They are responsible to win the second ball and recycle possession to keep the pressure on the opposition.
Al-Hilal employs a heavy front line consisting of three attackers and a central presence. Salem plays as the left winger and cuts inside to find space, while Malcom operates on the right wing to provide width and stretch the defence. M and Mitro act as the two central forwards. Mitro serves as a target man to hold up the ball, while M looks to make runs in behind the defenders. They press from the front to force the opposition into mistakes.
This formation offers significant attacking advantages, particularly through wide overloads when Al yami and Al harbi overlap the wingers. The presence of Mitro and M allows the team to pin the last defender and create chances through service into the box. Al-Hilal can also use the speed of transition to catch opponents out of position when they win it high.
The 4-2-4 lineup is a high risk, high reward system focused on relentless attacking pressure. It is best suited for matches where the team needs to break down a low block through sheer numbers in the final third.
