Starting Lineup

Isaak L · Ibrahim (H) · Ahmed A · Lucas H · Alex F · David G · Jonathan M · Cristian R · Miguel L · Angel P · Johansen P (C)

To be defensively solid and sit deep to frustrate the opposition, Arsenal plays with a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to deny space in the middle and force teams to play wide.

Isaak L stays between the posts to guard the goal. The back five functions as a narrow defensive block to protect the central areas. Jonathan M holds the line in the center of the defense. Ahmed A and Lucas H play as the wider center-backs to cover the channels. Ibrahim acts as an attacking wing back on the right to push forward, while Alex F plays as the left wing back to provide width. The whole defensive unit works to stay compact and clear the lines when under pressure.

The midfield uses a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Cristian R and David G play as the two holding midfielders to shield the defense and intercept passes. They look to win the ball and quickly recycle possession. Johansen P and Angel P play in the wide areas of the midfield four. Johansen P works on the right to carry the ball forward, and Angel P moves on the left to link the play. These players try to play through the lines to find the lone striker.

Up front, Miguel L plays as a lone striker. He works to press the opposition back line and hold up the ball to pin the last defender. The attack is built through the wide areas when Ibrahim and Alex F overlap the midfielders to whip it in toward the box. Johansen P and Angel P look to cut inside and make late runs into the box to support the central presence. The team aims to break quickly and hit in behind on the transition.

One major strength is the compactness when defending in a low block. By using five defenders, Arsenal makes it very difficult for opponents to find passing lanes through the middle. Another advantage is the ability to create wide overloads when the wing backs push up. This allows the team to switch play and find numbers on the flanks to deliver crosses.

This 5-4-1 formation is a disciplined way to absorb heavy pressure. It is best suited for matches against dominant teams where the goal is to defend deep and strike on the counter.
