Preston looks to play a direct and vertical style of football using a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup focuses on being defensively solid while looking to hit opponents in transition through two strikers. The intent is to stay compact and win the second ball to launch quick attacks.

The goalkeeper pilllkcad sits behind a back five that can shift based on the phase of play. CM and TM I act as the central defenders, providing height and strength to defend the box. SH plays as the right centre-back to complete the trio, while Reeee and RB operate as attacking wing backs on each side. Reeee and RB are tasked to push high and provide width, whereas the three central defenders hold a deep line to protect the area. The unit works to squeeze the space between the lines and defend zonally.

A three man midfield occupies the central area to control the middle third. Bey plays as a single pivot to shield the defence and intercept passes. jikl and Sh operate as the two central midfielders, with jikl looking to carry the ball forward and Sh looking to connect the defensive and attacking lines. This midfield trio works to press in a mid-block and ensure they stay close to one another to prevent opponents from playing through the lines.

The attack relies on a partnership of two forwards, Join and muik. Join acts as the lone striker who can hold up the ball, while muik plays as a second striker to find space between the lines. They press the opposition back line to force a long ball and look to run in behind the defence. When the team wins possession, the wing backs Reeee and RB provide the width to stretch the defence, allowing Join and muik to attack the central areas.

Preston offers several tactical advantages with this 5-3-2 formation. The main strength is the ability to win the second ball in the middle of the pitch due to the compact number of players. They also create wide overloads from the wing backs, which can isolate wide players in one on one situations. This setup makes them very difficult to break down when they drop into a low block.

This formation is built to be a resilient defensive unit that can strike with speed. It is best suited for games against teams that dominate possession where Preston can sit deep and counter at pace.
