Al-Hilal (KSA) Football Formation
Starting Lineup
BOUNOU · CANCELO (H. AL YAMI) · KOULIBALY · R. NEVES · R. LODI · M. AL HARBI (AL BULAYHI) · MALCOM (AL JUWAYR) · MILINKOVIC SAVIC · KANNO (HAMDALLAH) · N. AL DAWSARI (KAIO CÉSAR) · M. LEONARDOAl-Hilal aims to control games through a heavy high press and quick transitions using a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to dominate possession while remaining extremely difficult to break down when the team sits in a mid-block. By using five defenders, the team can control the width of the pitch and ensure stability during defensive shifts.
In goal, BOUNOU provides a reliable presence to sweep behind the line. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of R. NEVES, KOULIBALY, and R. LODI. KOULIBALY uses his aerial strength and physical presence to defend the central zone, while R. NEVES acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks. The wing backs, CANCELO and M. AL HARBI, are tasked to push high and provide the width that the three central defenders cannot. CANCELO often functions as an attacking wing back to overlap the right side, while M. AL HARBI covers the left.
The midfield works as a three man midfield with a carrier and two creative engines. KANNO acts as the single pivot to shield the defence and win the second ball. Ahead of him, MILINKOVIC SAVIC and N. AL DAWSARI operate in the half spaces to link the lines. MILINKOVIC SAVIC is known for his ability to arrive late into the box and his strength in the air. N. AL DAWSARI drives forward to connect the midfield to the attack, ensuring the team can progress through the thirds. This trio works to squeeze the space in the center and trigger a press when the ball enters their zone.
The attacking front line utilizes two forwards in a partnership to stretch the opposition. MALCOM and M. LEONARDO work together to pin the last defender and create space for the midfield. MALCOM often acts as an inverted winger who cuts inside from the right to shoot or create, while M. LEONARDO holds up the ball to allow others to join the attack. They press from the front to force a long ball, allowing the back line to regain possession. Their movement creates runs in behind for the wing backs to exploit through crosses.
Al-Hilal possesses significant tactical strengths through wide overloads from the attacking wing backs CANCELO and M. AL HARBI. The formation also allows for numerical superiority in the middle when the wing backs tuck in. This makes the team very hard to play through, as they can quickly shift to cover any wide threat.
This 5-3-2 formation offers a balance of defensive solidity and attacking width. It is best suited for games against teams that rely on counter attacks or those that struggle to handle high pressing in the middle of the pitch.
