Arsenal aims to dominate through high pressing and quick transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup seeks to squeeze the space in the opponent half and win the ball back high up the pitch. The goal is to use the width of the pitch to stretch the defence before breaking quickly through the middle or wide channels.

Raya starts in goal to play out from the back and distribute the ball to the defenders. The defensive unit functions as a back five with Zubimendi acting as a central defender to anchor the line. Saliba and Gabriel operate as the two primary centre-backs, with Saliba using his recovery speed and Gabriel providing aerial strength to defend the box. Timber and Lewis-Skelly act as attacking wing backs to provide width, while the trio of defenders works to keep a high line to keep the team compact.

The midfield relies on a two-man engine room to connect the lines. Rice acts as the primary shield for the defence, using his ball winning abilities to intercept passes and disrupt play. Ødegaard plays as a carrier who drives forward with the ball to link the defence to the attack. He looks to find pockets of space to receive on the half-turn and play through the lines to the forwards.

Arsenal employs three attackers across the front to pressure the opposition back line. Gyökeres operates as a pressing centre-forward who can hold up the ball and use his strength to pin the last defender. Kvaratskhelia and Saka act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. Saka looks to isolate the defender one on one, while Kvaratskhelia drifts into half spaces to create overloads. The wing backs, Timber and Lewis-Skelly, provide the width by overlapping the wingers to deliver crosses into the box.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to press high in coordinated waves. The presence of Zubimendi, Saliba, and Gabriel creates a very solid base that allows the wing backs to push high. Arsenal can also create wide overloads by having Timber and Saka work together to pull defenders out of position. The two man midfield provides enough coverage to prevent counter attacks while still allowing Ødegaard to push forward.

The 5-2-3 formation provides Arsenal with a platform for intense pressing and rapid verticality. This lineup is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
