A heavy possession style governs the way Arsenal plays with this 2-5-3 formation. The team aims to dominate the ball and maintain a high press to keep the opponent pinned back. This lineup is designed to win the ball back high up the pitch and sustain pressure in the final third. It is a formation built to control the game through constant possession.

Raya acts as the goalkeeper and works to sweep behind a high line. The defense consists of a back two featuring G. Magalhães and Saliba. Saliba uses his speed and composure to cover large areas of space while G. Magalhães uses his aerial strength to win headers. They play short from the back to build play and defend zonally as a single unit.

The midfield is a five man unit that controls the center of the pitch for Arsenal. Zinchenko and Timber sit in front of the defense to shield the center backs and help the team play out from the back. Zinchenko often moves inside to help Rice and Zubimendi dominate the middle. Rice and Zubimendi occupy the central roles to recycle possession and progress through the thirds. Rice uses his energy to intercept passes and carry the ball forward. Ødegaard operates as an attacking ten to find the feet of the striker and play through the lines.

Three attackers lead the line to stretch the pitch. Saka stays wide on the right to isolate defenders in one on one situations and uses his dribbling to create chances. G. Jesus moves from the left to cut inside and combine in tight spaces. Havertz plays as the central striker to hold up the ball and link up play with the midfield. The front three press from the front to force a long ball and win it back quickly through coordinated running.

This formation provides numerical superiority in the midfield to control the tempo and win the second ball. The ability to squeeze the space in the middle makes it hard for opponents to find passing lanes. It also allows for wide overloads when the wingers and midfielders work together to stretch the defence and create chances for the attackers.

This 2-5-3 formation is built for aggressive teams that want to dominate the ball and control the pitch. It works best against opponents that play a low block and lack the speed to counter at pace.
