Inter Football Formation
Starting Lineup
BASTONI · NDICKA · HATO · DIMARCO · DODÒ · BARELLA · NICO PAZ · LAUTARO MARTINEZ · CARNESECCHI · PIO ESPOSITO · CEBALLOSInter aims to dominate through high intensity and quick transitions using a 3-5-2. This formation focuses on winning the ball back high up the pitch and using vertical passing to catch the opposition off guard. The team relies on heavy pressing and rapid movements to move from a defensive block into a direct attacking threat.
Carnesecchi acts as the last line of defense, playing out from the back to start the build up. In front of him, Bastoni leads the central defense, acting as a ball playing defender to break the lines. Hato operates as the right centre back, while Ndicka covers the left side, forming a narrow defensive block when the team sits deep. These three defenders work to keep the line compact and win the second ball when the midfield forces a long ball.
The midfield relies on a three man midfield with a carrier and a creative tip. Barella works to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often pressing aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch. Ceballos provides stability in the center, helping to shield the defense and recycle possession. Nico Paz acts as the attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find the feet of the forwards or arrive late into the box. On the flanks, Dimarco and Dodò play as attacking wing backs, providing extreme width to stretch the defence.
The attacking unit features a partnership of two forwards. Lautaro Martinez operates as a pressing centre forward, looking to pin the last defender and create space for his partner. Pio Esposito works alongside him, often looking to run in behind or hold up the ball to link up play between the lines. Dimarco and Dodò frequently overlap the wingers to deliver crosses, while the central attackers combine in tight spaces to split the defence with a through ball.
Inter offers significant tactical advantages through the presence of attacking wing backs. Dimarco and Dodò create wide overloads, forcing the opposition to pull wide and leaving gaps in the middle. The midfield also provides numerical superiority in the center, allowing the team to squeeze the space and dominate the ball. This setup also allows for a quick transition, where the team can hit in behind on the transition through the pace of the forwards.
This 3-5-2 formation is built for high pressing and rapid counter attacking. It is best suited for games against opponents that play a high line or struggle to deal with wide overloads.
