Starting Lineup

Huja · Loncar · Borges · Wahlqvist · Ulvestad · Pozo · Ndiaye · Mukairu · Kouluris · TurboGrosik · Cojocaru

Pogon focuses on a high intensity, vertical style of play using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opponent in the final third through constant pressure and rapid transitions. The goal is to pin the opposition deep in their own half and create chances through heavy numbers in the attacking zone.

Cojocaru stays between the posts to manage the defensive line. The back four consists of Huja and Loncar as the central defenders, while Borges and Wahlqvist act as the full backs. Huja and Loncar must hold a high line to keep the team compact, with Loncar acting to cover the space behind while Huja manages the central area. Borges and Wahlqvist need to track back quickly when the ball is lost, but they also push up to support the midfield. The unit works to keep the distance between the defenders and the midfielders short to prevent the opponent from playing through the lines.

The midfield operates with a double pivot involving Ndiaye and Ulvestad. Because there are only two players in this central zone, Ndiaye and Ulvestad must work tirelessly to shield the defence and win the second ball. Ndiaye often acts as the carrier to move the ball from the back, while Ulvestad works to intercept passes and recycle possession. They are responsible for connecting the defensive unit to the front four. This pair must be disciplined to avoid being bypassed by a three man midfield, often dropping deep to help the center backs when under pressure.

The attack is built around four players designed to stretch the defence. Kouluris and Pozo operate as a strike partnership in the center, with Kouluris acting to hold up the ball and Pozo looking to run in behind. On the flanks, TurboGrosik and Mukairu provide the width by hugging the touchline, though they can cut inside to create goal scoring opportunities. These four players press from the front to force the opponent into mistakes. The movement of TurboGrosik and Mukairu creates space for the central strikers to operate, often leading to quick combinations or crosses delivered into the box.

This 4-2-4 formation offers significant tactical advantages, especially in terms of offensive pressure. Pogon can create wide overloads by having the full backs push up to join the wingers, which forces the opposition back line to spread wide. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the team can go direct and hit the opponent in behind with four players already positioned high up the pitch. The heavy presence in the final third makes it difficult for the opposition to defend the central areas.

The 4-2-4 lineup provides a heavy attacking presence that forces the opponent to defend deep. This formation is best suited for matches where Pogon needs to break down a low block or exploit a disorganized defense.
