Legia wants to be defensively solid and ready to strike on the break. The team employs a 5-2-3 formation to manage the width of the pitch. This lineup is built to play a reactive style of football, focusing on a compact defensive unit that can launch vertical attacks when the opposition makes a mistake.

Tobias sits in goal to organize the back line. The defence operates in a back five where Oyedele sits in the middle as a central anchor. Kapuadi and Pankov act as the wide centre backs to provide cover and sweep behind the higher players. Vinagre and Stojanovic function as attacking wing backs, tasked to push high up the pitch to provide width. When the opposition has the ball, the unit drops into a narrow defensive block to deny the turn of attackers and keep the shape tight.

A double pivot of Elitim and Goncalves controls the middle of the pitch. Elitim and Goncalves work to shield the defence and connect the back line to the front three. They must press in a mid block to win the ball back or force a long ball. These two players carry the ball forward to drive the team into the final third. Their role is to recycle possession and find the feet of the striker.

The attack features three players with Shkuryn leading the way as a pressing centre forward. Shkuryn must hold up the ball and work to win the second ball in the attacking third. Chodyna and Morishita act as wide wingers who look to cut inside and find space between the lines. This creates room for Vinagre and Stojanovic to overlap the winger and deliver crosses. The goal is to use quick transitions to hit the opposition in behind.

One major advantage for Legia is the ability to create wide overloads when the wing backs join the attack. This puts immense pressure on the opposition full backs. Another strength is the compactness when defending, as the five defenders and two midfielders can squeeze the space to deny passing lanes. This makes the team very hard to break down in a low block.

This 5-2-3 lineup is designed to be a hard team to beat while remaining dangerous on the counter. It is most effective against teams that like to play with high defensive lines and lots of possession.
