Starting Lineup

PSG plays a high press game using a 4-3-3. This lineup focuses on controlling the ball and squeezing the space in the opponent's half to win the ball back high up the pitch. The team aims to play through the lines and use constant movement to break the opponent's lines.

In the defensive unit, GK starts the buildup from the back. The back four consists of RB, RCB, LCB, and LB working as a unit. The team often employs a high line to compress the space between the defense and the midfield. RCB and LCB must be ready to cover space behind the defense, while RB and LB can push up to provide width. The defenders defend zonally to ensure they maintain a compact formation when the opponent has the ball.

The midfield features a trio of LCM, CM, and RCM. RCM often sits deeper to shield the defense and provide a link to the back four. LCM and CM occupy the central areas to drive forward with the ball and connect the defensive and attacking lines. These players work to win the second ball and recycle possession when the team faces pressure. They also look to arrive late into the box to add another layer to the attack.

PSG attacks with three players across the front involving ST, LW, and RW. The ST acts as a lone striker to lead the press from the front and find the feet of the midfielders. LW and RW provide the width, often hugging the touchline to stretch the defense, or cutting inside to create chances. This front line works to pin the last defender and create runs in behind. They look to play one two combinations to bypass the midfield and deliver crosses into the box.

This formation offers several tactical advantages for PSG. The midfield trio can create numerical superiority in the center to control the tempo of the game. Additionally, the team can trigger a press in coordinated waves, using the front three and the midfield to squeeze the opposition.
