GONZALEZ operates between the posts to command the penalty area. The defensive unit sits in a low block with a back three consisting of DREWANZ, GONZALEZ, and PERCARA. DREWANZ holds the center to win headers, while the other two central defenders cover the space behind him. On the flanks, MICHELLOD and DAGANI act as wing backs who must track back to form a back five when defending, but they can push up to provide width. This unit works together to keep a compact shape and deny any through balls.

The midfield operates in two lines of two to squeeze the space. TORRES acts as the single pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Next to him, ERIZAGA and PANIAGUA occupy the central spaces to intercept passes and disrupt the opposition. LOVATTO works alongside them to connect the lines, often dropping deep to help recycle possession. This group must stay narrow to ensure the opponent cannot play through the center.

In the final third, OJEDA acts as a lone striker. He is tasked to hold up the ball and wait for support. Because the team sits so deep, the attack relies on long balls or quick transitions. MICHELLOD and DAGANI provide the primary width, looking to whip it in from the wide areas. OJEDA must fight against two center backs to create space for OJEDA to receive and lay it off to oncoming runners.

One major advantage of this formation is the compactness when defending in a low block. Darmstadt makes it very hard for opponents to find gaps between the lines. Another strength is the ability to protect the middle, forcing teams to the wings where they are less dangerous. The formation also provides cover for the central defenders if a striker tries to run in behind.
