Arsenal looks to control the game through high pressing and quick transitions in this 5-2-3 formation. This lineup aims to win the ball back high up the pitch and use the width of the field to stretch the opposition. The team focuses on verticality once they regain possession to catch opponents out of position.

Raya sits between the posts to act as a sweeper behind a high line. The defensive unit functions as a back five where Zubimendi sits as the central man in a staggered back line to manage the space. Saliba and Gabriel act as the primary central defenders, with Saliba using his recovery speed and Gabriel providing aerial strength. Timber operates as a right wing back to provide width, while Lewis-Skelly plays as a left wing back to push up the flank. The defenders work together to squeeze the space and deny the turn to any incoming attackers.

A two-man midfield operates in the center to link the defense and the attack. Rice plays as a carrier who drives forward with the ball and helps to shield the defense when the team sits deep. Ødegaard acts as the primary playmaker, looking to create from deep and play through the lines to find the forwards. The midfield pair must work hard to press in a mid-block and ensure they do not get bypassed by direct play. They are responsible for recycling possession and finding the wide players when the central lanes are blocked.

The attacking front three focuses on high intensity to pressure the opposition back line. Šeško acts as the central striker, playing to find the feet of the striker and using his presence to hold up the ball. Saka stays wide on the right as an inverted winger to cut inside and create chances, while Barcola operates on the left to stretch the defence. These attackers look to make runs in behind and combine in tight spaces to break the line. The movement of the wingers creates space for the wing backs to overlap and deliver crosses into the box.

Arsenal gains a major advantage through the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The five defenders and two midfielders can quickly shift to form a compact block when the ball is lost. This setup also offers wide overloads because the wingers and wing backs can double up on the flanks to isolate wide players in one on one situations. The presence of Zubimendi allows the team to build out from the back with more security.

This formation provides a heavy presence in both the defensive and attacking thirds. It is best suited for matches against teams that try to play out from the back and can be exploited through rapid transitions.
