Starting Lineup

livakovic · osterwolde · carlos · brown · mimovic · amrabat · fred · talisca · oğuz · x · duran

Fenerbahçe aims to control the central areas of the pitch and maintain a high press to win the ball back quickly, operating within a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to play with high energy and verticality, looking to exploit gaps between the opposition lines as soon as possession is regained. By crowding the middle, the team creates a platform to transition from a defensive block into a rapid attacking move.

Livakovic guards the goal as the last line of defense, organizing the unit from the back. The defensive line consists of a flat back four where mimovic acts as the right back, providing width and looking to overlap on the flank. On the left, brown occupies the full back position to balance the defensive line. In the center, carlos and osterwolde form the pair of central defenders, tasked with holding the line and winning the second ball. They must stay compact to prevent through balls and ensure they do not get caught too high when the team presses.

The midfield works in a five man unit that covers the entire width of the pitch. A double pivot of amrabat and fred sits in front of the defense to shield the back four and break up play. Amrabat provides physical presence to win duels, while fred acts as a carrier to drive forward with the ball and connect the defensive and attacking lines. In front of them, talisca and oğuz operate in the half spaces to create chances from deep and arrive late into the box. The attacking midfielder x plays in the hole to link the midfield to the lone striker, acting as the primary playmaker to find the feet of the attacker.

Duran leads the line as a lone striker, acting as the focal point for the attack. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to push forward and join the play. The attacking unit relies on the movement of x and the late runs of talisca to overwhelm the opposition defense. Wide players and the attacking midfielders look to create combinations in tight spaces, often using cutbacks from the byline or through balls to find Duran in central areas. When out of possession, the front line is tasked to press from the front to force a long ball from the opponent.

Fenerbahçe gains a major advantage through numerical superiority in the central midfield, making it difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The ability to press in a mid-block and win the ball high up the pitch allows the team to transition quickly before the opposition can set their defensive line. Additionally, the presence of talisca and x in the advanced positions provides the ability to split the defence with a through ball or unexpected runs from deep.

This 4-5-1 formation creates a hard unit to break down through the middle while remaining lethal on the transition. It is best suited for games against possession based teams where Fenerbahçe can sit in a compact shape and hit them on the break.
