Because this formation uses only two central defenders, they must stay disciplined to prevent runners from getting behind them, often relying on the midfield to drop back and help.

The midfield is a five man block designed to control the center and provide support to the defense. Maxwell and Hakimi operate as defensive midfielders to protect the two center backs, while Vitinha and Verratti operate in the half spaces to drive forward with the ball. Verratti is known for his ability to resist pressure and his exceptional passing range. Rai plays as the attacking ten behind the striker, acting as the link between the midfield and the attack. This group must work hard to win the second ball and recover if the high line is broken.

In the attacking phase, PSG employs three attackers across the front. Ibrahimovic acts as the target man, using his massive aerial strength to hold up the ball and bring others into play. Mbappé plays as an inverted winger on the left, looking to cut inside and run in behind the defense with his immense pace. Dembélé provides width on the right wing, looking to take on defenders one on one and deliver crosses. The front three press the opposition back line aggressively to force errors and win the ball high up the pitch.

One major advantage of this PSG lineup is the ability to create wide overloads, as the midfielders can push up to support the wingers. The team also benefits from numerical superiority in the central areas when Rai and the two central midfielders move into advanced positions.
