SK Rapid Football Formation
Starting Lineup
J. Auer · Bolla · Raux Yao · Cvetkovic · Kara · Seidl · Radulovic · Grgic · Sangaré · Amane · HedlSK Rapid focuses on a high press and quick verticality when playing a 5-2-3. This formation is built to win the ball high up the pitch and strike rapidly before the opposition can settle. The lineup uses width and defensive solidity to control the tempo of the game through transitions.
Hedl stays between the posts to organize the defense from the back. The back line operates as a back three with Grgic acting as the central defender to win the header and clear the lines. Raux Yao and Cvetkovic sit on either side of him to provide cover. Bolla and J. Auer act as attacking wing backs who spread wide to provide width in the final third. They must track back quickly to maintain a compact defensive block when the team loses possession.
The midfield works as a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Sangaré and Amane occupy the central areas to connect the defense and attack. Sangaré acts as the primary ball carrier to move the team forward, while Amane works to intercept passes and win the second ball. These two players must squeeze the space between the lines to prevent the opponent from playing through the middle.
Up front, the team utilizes three attackers to stretch the defense. Kara acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and lead the press from the front. Seidl and Radulovic operate as wide wingers who stay near the touchline to pull the opposition back line apart. This creates space for the wing backs to overlap or for the attackers to make runs in behind. The front three aim to split the defense with through balls and quick combinations in tight spaces.
One major advantage for SK Rapid is the ability to create wide overloads from the wing backs and wingers. The formation also allows for an effective press in coordinated waves to win it back high up the pitch. This provides the team with great speed of transition once the ball is recovered.
This 5-2-3 formation provides a strong platform for high pressing and rapid counter attacks. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back or leave space behind their defenders.
