Rodri acts as the deep lying playmaker, shielding the two center backs and recycling possession to keep the team moving. Next to him, Llorente and Grimaldo provide defensive cover and help to win the second ball. Pedri operates in the half spaces to connect the lines, using his passing range to find teammates, while Olmo plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space. This heavy midfield presence allows the team to move the ball through the thirds with ease.

In the attacking third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Williams and Yamal act as wide wingers who stay wide to create width, looking to isolate defenders in one on one situations. Yamal often looks to cut inside to create goalscoring chances. Morata plays as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and pin the last defender to create room for the runners. The attack is built through quick combinations and finding the feet of the striker to link play with the advancing midfielders.

A major advantage for Spain is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows them to control the rhythm of the game and prevent opponents from building play. The formation also creates wide overloads when the midfielders push high to support the wingers. By keeping so many players in central areas, they can easily win the ball back high up the pitch and launch immediate attacks.
