Lithuania National Football Team Formation
Starting Lineup
Relja · Ippo ( C ) · Xdred · Kosky · Devivo · Matt · Engard · Panda · Okuto · Keylox · PromomentoLithuania aims to absorb pressure and defend in a low block, utilizing a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to stay compact and wait for the right moment to strike on the break. The main goal is to deny space in the middle and force the opponent to play wide.
Panda stays between the posts to guard the goal. The defensive unit works as a back five with Kosky sitting in the center to protect the zone. Promomento acts as the right centre-back while Xdred covers the left centre-back spot. On the flanks, Ippo (C) operates as the left wing back and Devivo plays as the right wing back. These wide defenders must track back to form a narrow defensive block to deny the turn of attackers. The unit works together to hold the line and clear the lines when the ball enters the box.
In front of the defense, the midfield stays in a flat line to clog the central zones. Matt plays as a single pivot to shield the defense and pick up runners. Engard, Keylox, and Okuto act as the other three midfielders to compress the midfield. This group works to squeeze the space and press the opposition in a mid-block. They try to win the second ball and recycle possession quickly once it is regained. The midfielders connect the defense and attack by looking to pass through the lines.
The attack relies on a lone striker, Relja, who plays as a target man to hold up the ball. Relja must pin the last defender to create space for others. When Lithuania transitions, Devivo and Ippo (C) push high to provide width. This movement is designed to create runs in behind and allow for cutbacks from the byline. The team looks to hit in behind on the transition and find the feet of the striker to start a move.
This formation offers great compactness when defending, making it difficult for opponents to find gaps. Lithuania can also create wide overloads when the wing backs push forward to overlap the winger. Another advantage is the ability to defend in a low block and then break quickly to catch the opposition off guard.
This 5-4-1 formation is a defensive way to play that relies on a strong back line. It is best suited for games against high possession sides where the team must sit deep and defend.
