Wolves Football Formation
Starting Lineup
MAHATHIR · SAMIN · ISLAM · RAKIB · LIKHON · FORHAD · EHAB · AKASH · MAHIN 1 · MAHIN 7 · TANJILWolves look to play a direct and vertical style of football using a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup is built to sit in a mid-block and use the speed of the forwards to catch opponents on the break. By utilizing two banks of four, the team aims to stay compact and win the second ball in central areas to transition quickly.
TANJIL plays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line consists of a flat back four with MAHIN on the right and EHAB on the left. MAHIN and AKASH operate as the central defenders, where they must hold the line and defend zonally to keep the defensive block tight. The full backs, MAHIN and EHAB, are tasked to track back when the team loses possession and support the central defenders to prevent runners from finding space between the lines.
The midfield operates in two lines to control the central zones. FORHAD acts as the single pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. Beside him, LIKHON and RAKIB operate as two central midfielders who must press in a mid-block to win the ball back. ISLAM plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space and play through the lines. This midfield unit works to connect the back four to the front line by moving the ball quickly once possession is regained.
Wolves employ two forwards in a partnership to stretch the defence. MAHATHIR and SAMIN lead the line, with MAHATHIR often acting as the player to hold up the ball and SAMIN looking to make runs in behind. The attackers must press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. When the team wins the ball, the aim is to hit in behind on the transition or use the width provided by the wide midfielders to whip it in for the strikers.
This formation offers the advantage of compactness when defending in a mid-block. Wolves can also create wide overloads if the full backs push up to support the wide midfielders. The presence of two strikers allows the team to pin the last defender and create space for ISLAM to arrive late into the box.
This 4-4-2 lineup focuses on defensive solidity and rapid vertical transitions. It is a system best suited for games against possession based teams where Wolves can sit deep and counter at pace.
