Starting Lineup

NK (C) · HyperS · Gorthion · Poxmelator · Lyrio · Mine · Anarchy · Ulqui · Ingus · Coyote · Zoro

Japan seeks to control the tempo and win the ball back high up the pitch through a high press using a 4-3-3. This formation focuses on aggressive movement to suffocate the opponent and create chances through quick combinations. The lineup is built to dominate the ball and squeeze the space in the final third to keep the opposition pinned back.

HyperS stays between the posts to command the area. A flat back four provides the base for the defensive unit. NK (C) acts as the captain and manages the backline from the right side while Poxmelator operates as the left back to provide width. Gorthion and Lyrio function as the two central defenders, where they must hold the line and clear the lines when under pressure. They work to defend zonally and ensure they do not allow runners to slip behind.

The midfield operates with a three man midfield where Anarchy and Mine occupy the central roles to control the center of the pitch. They aim to recycle possession and protect the two central defenders. Ulqui plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to connect the lines. Mine and Anarchy work to press in a mid-block to force long balls, while Ulqui looks to find the feet of the striker or play through the lines. This group works to compress the midfield and deny the turn to opposition playmakers.

An attacking front three leads the pressure from the front. Coyote acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and fight for second balls. On the flanks, Ingus and Zoro act as wide wingers who look to cut inside to create overloads. Ingus pulls wide to stretch the defence, while Zoro tries to isolate a one on one wide to create goalscoring opportunities. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and trigger a press from the midfield.

Japan offers significant advantages through their ability to press in coordinated waves. The combination of the three midfielders and the three attackers makes it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. Wide overloads from the wingers and full backs allow the team to spread wide and create passing lanes. This setup also allows for a high level of compactness when defending in a mid-block.

The Japan lineup relies on high intensity and verticality to break down opponents. This formation is best suited for games where the team can dominate possession and pin the opposition into their own half.
