Grgic sits in the middle as the main centre back to win the header and organize the line. Marcelin and Horn play as wide centre backs to cover the spaces behind the wing backs. Bolla works as the right wing back to provide width and stretch the defence, while J. Auer acts as the left wing back to support the attack. This unit can shift together to block the runner or drop into a low block to deny space.

The midfield functions as a double pivot to control the centre. Sangaré and Amane work to shield the defence and win the second ball. Sangaré stays a bit deeper to deny the pivot of the opposition, while Amane is there to carry the ball forward and progress through the thirds. They work to connect the defence and the front three, making sure to squeeze the space when the ball is lost.
