Starting Lineup

ARMANI · MONTIEL · MARTINEZ (QUARTA) · PAULO (DÍAZ) · ACUÑA · ENZO (PÉREZ) · CASTAÑO · LENCINA · COLIDIO · SALAS · JUANFER

River focuses on rapid transitions and verticality using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to stretch the defence and exploit gaps in the opposition defensive line. The team seeks to win it back high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opponent can regroup. The goal is to dominate through quick movement.

Armani guards the goal as the goalkeeper. The defensive unit functions with a back five that can shift to a mid-block. Enzo acts as the central defender to hold the line and cover the other defenders. Paulo and Martinez play as wide centre-backs to cover the flanks and win the header during set pieces. Acuña and Montiel act as attacking wing backs who push high to provide width and overlap the wingers. This allows the team to maintain a solid base while attacking.

The midfield consists of a double pivot with Lencina and Castaño. This pair is tasked to shield the defence and recycle possession. Castaño stays deeper to deny the turn of the opposition and win the second ball. Lencina works to carry the ball forward and play through the lines to connect the defensive unit with the forwards. They act as the engine of the team and their ability to press in a mid-block helps the team maintain control of the center.

Up front, the team uses three attackers across the front. Salas operates as a lone striker to hold up the ball and find the feet of teammates during combinations. Colidio and Juanfer play as wide attackers who look to cut inside to create space. This movement allows Acuña and Montiel to get to the byline and whip it in towards the goal. The attack relies on quick passes to hit in behind on the transition and pin the last defender.

The formation offers several tactical advantages for River. The most significant is the ability to create wide overloads from the overlapping wing backs. This forces the opposition to defend deep and leaves them vulnerable to crosses. Additionally, the presence of Enzo, Paulo, and Martinez provides great compactness when defending the central area. This density makes them difficult to play through.

This 5-2-3 formation provides a strong balance of defensive solidity and attacking width. It is most effective against teams that play with a high line and leave space behind the defenders.
