PSG aims to play a vertical style of football that focuses on rapid transitions and width. This is achieved through a 5-2-3 formation. The lineup relies on heavy pressure from the front and rapid movement in the half spaces to catch opponents off guard.

DONNARUMMA acts as the last line of defense, providing a strong presence in goal. The back five features MARQUINHOS and PACHO as the central pillars, while VITINHA takes on a role as a wide centre back to help play out from the back. HAKIMI operates as an attacking wing back on the right, looking to push high up the pitch and provide width. On the left, MENDES acts as an attacking wing back to stretch the pitch. The defensive unit works to hold a mid-block and shift together to close down spaces as the ball moves.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. J. NEVES looks to sit deep and shield the defense, often looking to recycle possession and switch play. Beside him, F. RUIZ acts as a carrier to drive the ball forward and connect the defensive line to the attack. This duo works to win the second ball and ensure the team stays compact when defending. They must be ready to press in a mid-block to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

In the attacking third, PSG uses three attackers to pin the opposition back line. G. RAMOS plays as the lone striker, acting as a focal point to hold up the ball and link up with others. KVARATSKHELIA stays wide on the left but frequently cuts inside to create goalscoring chances with his dribbling. On the right, DOUÉ operates as an inverted winger to threaten the box. This front three focuses on making runs in behind and attacking in combinations to exploit the space left by advancing defenders.

One major advantage for PSG is the ability to create wide overloads when HAKIMI and MENDES push forward to join the attackers. The formation also allows for great compactness when defending, as the wing backs can drop into a deep block to form a five man line. This provides the team with the ability to recover quickly and counter at pace once the ball is won back high up the pitch.

This 5-2-3 formation provides a balance of defensive solidity and rapid attacking transitions. It is a lineup best suited for facing teams that play with high defensive lines or leave space behind their full backs.
