Nottm Forest Football Formation

Creation DateJuly 20, 2025

Starting Lineup

Ramsey · Sangare · Anderson · Ndoye · CHO · Nunez · Murillo · Milenkovic · Aina · Williams · Sels

Nottm Forest play a very direct and aggressive brand of football using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to stretch the pitch and hit the opposition with high intensity during transitions. The primary goal is to use the width of the pitch to create chances and move the ball quickly from the back to the front line.

Sels acts as the last line of defence in goal. In front of him, the back four functions as a zonal line to protect the central areas. Milenkovic and Murillo operate as the two central defenders, with Murillo often showing his strength in winning the second ball and Milenkovic providing aerial strength. Aina plays as a right back who can push up to support the wingers, while Williams works as the left back to cover the wide areas. The defensive unit works to keep the lines tight to prevent through balls.

The midfield consists of a double pivot designed to protect the centre of the pitch. Sangare sits deeper to shield the defence and win back possession, while Ramsey acts as the carrier to drive forward with the ball. This duo must work hard to connect the defensive line to the four attackers ahead. They are tasked with pressing in a mid-block to force turnovers and then immediately looking to play through the lines to the front four.

Nottm Forest deploy four attackers to pin the last defender and stretch the opposition. Nunez and Anderson work as a strike partnership, where Nunez acts as a presence to hold up the ball and Anderson looks for runs in behind. On the flanks, Ndoye and CHO act as wide wingers who stay high up the pitch to provide width. Ndoye and CHO often look to cut inside to create numbers in the box or deliver crosses from wide areas. This front line is designed to press from the front and win the ball high up the pitch.

One major advantage of this 4-2-4 is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs join the attack. The formation also provides great speed of transition, allowing the team to move from a defensive block to an attacking state in seconds. By having four players high up the pitch, Nottm Forest can pin the opposition back and force them to defend deep in their own half.

This formation relies on high intensity and quick vertical movement to bypass the opposition midfield. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high line or leave space behind their defensive unit.
