Macca or Jones works alongside to control the tempo and connect the play. This duo must press aggressively to win the second ball and prevent the opposition from playing through the lines. They also need to track back to support the wide defenders when the team loses possession.

In the attacking third, Liverpool uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Nunez or Ekitike acts as a pressing centre-forward to lead the front line.
