Starting Lineup

Inter plays a highly aggressive and vertical game using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm opponents through central dominance and rapid transitions. The team focuses on winning the ball high up the pitch and quickly moving it toward the goal to exploit gaps in the opposition.

Samuel provides aerial strength and physicality to mark the opposition striker, while Lucio acts as a ball playing defender capable of covering the space behind. Because there are only two central defenders, they must hold a high line to squeeze the space and compress the midfield. They work together to intercept passes and win the second ball when the opposition tries to bypass the first wave of the press.

The midfield acts as a powerful engine room with five players controlling the center. Chivu and Maicon operate as a double pivot to shield the defense. Chivu protects the left side while Maicon uses his pace to carry the ball forward and join the attack. Cambiasso and Zanetti work as two central midfielders to recycle possession and connect the defensive and attacking lines. Zanetti is known for his incredible work rate and ability to track back when needed. Stankovic plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to arrive late into the box and exploit the pockets of space.

Inter uses three attackers across the front to stretch the defense. D. Milito acts as the central striker to hold up the ball and link up play between the lines. Eto‘o plays as an inverted winger on the left, looking to cut inside and run into the channels. Sneijder operates on the right, using his exceptional passing range to switch play or deliver crosses. The front three press the opposition back line to force a long ball and win it back high up the pitch. This movement creates constant threats through runs in behind and combinations in tight spaces.
