ZTE Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Gundel-Takács · Szendrei · Várkonyi · Megyes · Csóka · Csonka · Sankovič · Dénes-Csanád · Bakti · Kiss · AlmásiZTE relies on a heavy defensive block and quick transitions in a 5-3-2. This formation is built to stay compact and absorb pressure before catching opponents on the break. The tactical identity focuses on defensive solidity and a low block to deny space between the lines.
Gundel-Takács starts in goal to manage the defensive unit. The back line operates as a back five with three central defenders, Várkonyi, Csonka, and Csóka, who maintain a narrow defensive block. Várkonyi and Csonka work to win the second ball and clear the lines, while Csóka acts as the covering defender to pick up runners. On the flanks, Megyes and Szendrei act as attacking wing backs. Megyes pushes high to provide width on the right, while Szendrei overlaps the winger to deliver crosses. This unit functions to protect the middle and force opponents wide.
In the middle of the pitch, ZTE uses a three-man midfield to control the central zone. Sankovič acts as a single pivot to shield the defence and sit in front of the back three. Beside him, Bakti and Dénes-Csanád operate as two inverted eights who connect the defensive and attacking lines. Bakti drives forward with the ball to carry it into the final third, while Dénes-Csanád works to win the ball high and recycle possession. This midfield group is tasked to press in a mid-block and deny the pivot of the opposition.
The attacking unit consists of two forwards working in a partnership. Kiss and Almási lead the line as two forwards who look to exploit space behind the opposition defence. Kiss works to hold up the ball to allow teammates to move up, while Almási makes runs in behind to receive through balls. The attack is built through quick transitions where the wing backs, Megyes and Szendrei, provide the necessary width. This allows the two strikers to stay central and isolate defenders in one on one situations after a turnover.
ZTE gains a significant advantage through their compactness when defending. By sitting deep, the team makes it difficult for opponents to play through the lines. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when Megyes and Szendrei push forward simultaneously. This forces the opposition to stretch their defensive line, which eventually opens gaps for Almási and Kiss to exploit in the transition.
This 5-3-2 formation provides ZTE with a sturdy platform to defend deep and strike on the break. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession and leave space behind their high line.
