Besiktas Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Kaleci /Mert · Paulista · X · X · David Jurásek · X · Udokhai · R.Silva · Orkun K. · Demir Ege Tıknaz · T.AbrahamPrioritizing defensive solidity and quick transitions, Besiktas operates in a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to absorb pressure and look for opportunities to hit the opposition on the break. The team aims to remain compact and hard to break down, making it difficult for opponents to play through the middle.
Mert guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back five consists of Udokhai, Demir Ege Tıknaz, and Paulista in the central positions, while David Jurásek and X operate as wide wing backs. Paulista provides aerial strength and leadership in the heart of the defense, while Udokhai covers the left side. Demir Ege Tıknaz acts as a central presence to hold the line. The wing backs, David Jurásek and X, are required to track back and defend the flanks while also looking to provide width when the team wins the ball.
A four man midfield sits in front of the back five to shield the defense. R.Silva and Orkun K. form a double pivot in the center. R.Silva acts as a carrier to drive the ball forward, while Orkun K. helps to protect the center and recycle possession. The two wide midfielders, X and X, occupy the lateral spaces to link the midfield to the attack. This unit works to squeeze the space between the lines and press in a mid-block to disrupt the opposition.
Besiktas utilizes T.Abraham as a lone striker to lead the line. T.Abraham works to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates, often acting as a focal point for long balls. The attack relies on the movement of the wide midfielders, X and X, who can push forward to support the striker. When the team transitions, the goal is to get the ball to T.Abraham quickly or exploit the runs in behind made by the wide players as they move into the final third.
The formation offers several tactical advantages, including great compactness when defending deep in their own half. By using a five man back line, Besiktas can easily double up on wide attackers and deny them space. The double pivot of R.Silva and Orkun K. provides stability, allowing the team to maintain a strong central presence. This setup is also effective for creating sudden transitions where the wing backs can move forward to create wide overloads.
The 5-4-1 formation makes Besiktas a very difficult team to break down through central areas. It is a lineup best suited for facing teams that dominate possession and play with high attacking lines.
