They serve as the bridge that transitions the team from a mid block into a direct attacking phase.

In the final third, Ajax utilizes three attackers to stretch the defense. godts and moro act as wide wingers who look to cut inside and create chances, while aankoop (2) serves as the lone striker. aankoop (2) must hold up the ball to allow the wingers to join the attack or make runs in behind the defenders. The wingers, godts and moro, press the opposition back line to force a long ball. This front three works to isolate defenders in one on one situations and create cutbacks from the byline.
