ATK Mohun Bagan Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Ayansh · Kartikey · Shivansh · Aayushmaan · Abhuday · Madhav · Devansh · Daiwik · Arnav (Shivansh in penalty shoot) · Shourya · VaibhavATK Mohun Bagan relies on a heavy defensive presence and quick transitions, operating through a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to sit in a mid-block and wait for the opposition to commit bodies forward before hitting them on the break. The team seeks to keep the middle crowded to deny passing lanes and uses a single striker to hold the ball up during transition phases.
Arnav stays on his line to command the penalty area. In front of him, a flat back four provides the foundation for the defense. Madhav and Vaibhav act as the central defenders, with Madhav covering the right side and Vaibhav marking the left. Daiwik and Shourya play as wide defenders, tasked with tracking back to defend the flanks and ensuring they do not get caught too high. The unit works to stay compact, moving together as a single line to squeeze the space between the defense and the midfield.
The midfield unit consists of five players working to control the central zones. Kartikey sits in the single pivot role to shield the defense and win the second ball. To his side, Ayansh and Abhuday act as the central engines, with Abhuday driving forward with the ball while Ayansh maintains his position to recycle possession. Devansh operates on the left side of the midfield line, providing balance and helping the team switch play. Aayushmaan plays as the attacking ten, positioned behind the striker to link the lines and find pockets of space between the opposition lines.
Shivansh operates as a lone striker, tasked with being a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition build up. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to move up the pitch. The attack relies on the movement of Aayushmaan and the wide midfielders to support the forward. When the team wins the ball, they look to exploit the channels with quick runs in behind. The goal is to use the width provided by Daiwik and Shourya to stretch the defence before delivering a ball into the box.
ATK Mohun Bagan finds success through their ability to maintain compactness when defending. By crowding the middle with five players, they make it very difficult for opponents to play through the lines. Another strength is their speed of transition, as they can quickly move from a mid-block into an attacking phase once Kartikey or Ayansh intercepts a pass.
This 4-5-1 formation is designed to be defensively solid and hard to break down. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession where ATK Mohun Bagan can exploit the spaces left behind a high line.
