Dynamo Kyiv Football Formation
Starting Lineup
С. Дзядикевич · О. Машнін · І. Варваренець · Д. Рацин · Н. Слободян · І. Сороцький · О. Новіков · Д. Коник · В. Плішка · П. Хома · В. ШпукDynamo Kyiv focuses on a high press and heavy work rates within a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch and use quick transitions to catch the opposition out of position. The team wants to control the middle of the park while maintaining a compact distance between the lines to prevent being played through.
В. Шпук plays between the posts to command the area. A flat back four sits in front of him with П. Хома acting as the right back and О. Новіков playing as the left back. In the center, В. Плішка and Д. Коник form the defensive pair to protect the box. В. Плішка and Д. Коник must hold the line and ensure they cover the space behind the full backs when they push up. The defensive unit works to squeeze the space between themselves and the midfield to deny the turn to attackers.
The midfield acts as a five man block that can shift to congest the center. І. Варваренець and Д. Рацин form a double pivot to shield the defence and win the second ball. Moving slightly higher, Н. Слободян and І. Сороцький operate as two tens in the half spaces to connect the play. О. Машнін plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space. І. Варваренець and Д. Рацин are tasked to protect the centre, while Н. Слободян and І. Сороцький look to press in a mid-block to force a long ball.
In the attacking phase, С. Дзядикевич operates as a lone striker to lead the line. He is tasked to hold up the ball and wait for support from the midfield. The attack relies on О. Машнін to arrive late into the box or play through the lines to find the striker. Wide movements from the midfielders help to stretch the defence, creating opportunities for С. Дзядикевич to receive the ball and turn. The goal is to move the ball quickly from the midfield to the front line to strike before the opponent can reset.
Dynamo Kyiv gains a significant advantage through numerical superiority in the midfield. By packing the central areas, they can easily win the second ball and recycle possession. The formation also allows the team to press in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to play short from the back. This setup provides the ability to transition from a deep block to an attacking position with great speed.
This 4-5-1 formation creates a very compact defensive unit that is difficult to break down centrally. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession where the team needs to defend deep and strike on the break.
