Valencia Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Otxotorena · Arias · Voro · Camarasa · Nando · Arroyo · Fernando © · Penev · Tomás · Fenoll · ToniValencia looks to control the game through a high press and quick transitions in a 4-3-3. This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch and move it forward rapidly to catch the opposition before they can settle. By using this formation, Valencia intends to stretch the defence and create frequent chances in the final third.
Otxotorena sits between the posts to direct the defensive unit. The back line operates as a flat back four where Nando and Camarasa act as full backs to provide width. Nando is tasked to push forward and overlap the winger, while Camarasa looks to support the right flank. In the middle, Voro and Arias form the central pairing, with Voro acting as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back. Arias must be ready to cover the space when the full backs push high, ensuring the defensive unit remains compact.
The midfield functions with a three-man group that connects the defence to the attack. Fernando, the captain, plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space. He is supported by Arroyo and Tomás in the central roles. Arroyo works to press aggressively to win the ball high, while Tomás helps to recycle possession and shield the back four. This trio must work to squeeze the space in the middle to deny the turn of opposition playmakers and ensure they can progress through the thirds effectively.
Valencia employs three attackers across the front line to pin the last defender. Penev acts as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and link up play between the lines. On the wings, Fenoll and Toni operate as wide wingers who hug the touchline to spread the pitch. Both Fenoll and Toni look to cut inside to create goal scoring opportunities or whip it in for the striker. The attack relies on quick combinations to break the line and create runs in behind the opposition defence.
A major tactical advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, with the front three and midfield triggering a press to force a long ball. The wide positioning of Fenoll and Toni also allows for wide overloads when Nando and Camarasa overlap. This creates space in the half spaces for Fernando to arrive late into the box.
This 4-3-3 formation is built to dominate possession and punish teams that struggle to play out from the back. It is best suited for games against opponents that sit deep and allow Valencia to control the tempo.
