Starting Lineup

Mansilla · Villa · Vallejo · Galván · Ferreira · Sánchez · Tesuri · Coronel · Román · Ortiz · Ruiz Rodríguez

Atl. Tucumán focuses on a high press and rapid verticality through a 4-2-4. This formation is built to overload the opposition by pushing many players high up the pitch to win the ball back quickly. The team looks to strike with speed as soon as they regain possession.

Mansilla operates as the goalkeeper between the posts. The back line uses a flat back four to maintain distance between the defensive and attacking units. Galván and Villa act as the wide defenders, with Galván on the left and Villa on the right. In the middle, Ferreira and Vallejo serve as the central defenders. Ferreira and Vallejo must be ready to step up to squeeze the space or drop to cover runs in behind. This defensive unit works to protect the middle and force the opponent out wide.

The midfield consists of a double pivot to provide a layer of protection in front of the defense. Sánchez and Ortiz occupy the central roles to control the middle of the pitch. Ortiz and Sánchez must work hard to intercept passes and win the second ball. They act as the link between the defensive line and the front four, often having to cover large amounts of ground to support the attack or track back to help the full backs.

The attacking unit is composed of four players who aim to stretch the defense. Román and Tesuri occupy the wide positions as wingers to provide width, with Román on the left and Tesuri on the right. They look to cut inside and create chances or pull defenders wide to create gaps. In the center, Coronel and Ruiz Rodríguez play as a duo of forwards. These two must combine in tight spaces and make runs in behind to exploit the space left by a high defensive line.

Atl. Tucumán gains a massive advantage through numerical superiority in the final third. By committing four players to the attack, they can isolate defenders in one on one situations. The team also benefits from the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for the opponent to build play from the back.

This 4-2-4 formation is designed for a high tempo game where winning the ball high up the pitch is the main goal. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back under intense pressure.
