Starting Lineup

Rey · Zabala · Lomónaco · Paredes · Freire · Loyola · Mazzanti · Pussetto · Cabral · Millán · Montiel

Independiente seeks to control the tempo through a high press and quick transitions in a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and use verticality to catch the opposition out of position. By staying compact and pressing in waves, Independiente looks to dominate the ball and force mistakes in the middle third.

Rey sits between the posts to organize the defense and play short from the back. The back four features Zabala and Paredes as the wide defenders, while Freire and Lomónaco act as the central pair. Freire and Lomónaco defend zonally to maintain a high line, with Lomónaco providing aerial strength to win headers during defensive transitions. Zabala and Paredes provide width, ready to push up when the team has the ball, while the central defenders are tasked to cover space if the opposition hits in behind.

The midfield operates as a three man midfield with a single pivot. Loyola acts as the anchor to shield the defense and pick up runners, while Millán and Cabral act as inverted eights. Millán looks to connect the defensive and attacking lines by receiving on the half-turn, and Cabral works to drive forward with the ball to break the line. This unit works to compress the midfield and ensure the team can quickly recycle possession or win the second ball in central areas.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers across the front. Pussetto acts as a pressing centre-forward to pin the last defender and hold up the ball for others. On the flanks, Montiel and Mazzanti act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create space for the full backs. Montiel looks to find the feet of the striker or whip it in from wide areas, while Mazzanti seeks to isolate a one on one wide. This attacking unit focuses on link up play between the lines to create chances.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build from the back. The team also benefits from wide overloads when Zabala and Paredes overlap the winger to stretch the defence. This creates space in the half spaces for Millán and Cabral to arrive late into the box and cause problems.

This 4-3-3 formation provides a balance of defensive stability and aggressive attacking intent. It is best suited for matches against teams that play a high line or struggle to play out from the back.
