Di Gregorio protects the goal from the back. The defensive unit relies on a back three consisting of Bremer, Kalulu, and Gatti. Bremer acts as the central anchor, using his aerial strength to win headers and clear the lines. Kalulu and Gatti defend the spaces on the left and right, working to keep the unit compact. They often play a mid-block to deny the turn of any attackers trying to enter the central zone.

The midfield is a massive engine room designed to win the second ball and progress through the thirds. Locatelli plays as a deep-lying playmaker to shield the defense and recycle possession. Cambiaso and Mário provide the links between the defense and the attack, while Koopmeiners and Thuram act as the primary carriers. Koopmeiners uses his passing range to find teammates and break the line with vertical passes. Yıldız operates as an attacking ten behind the striker to connect the lines and find space between the lines.

David leads the line as a lone striker, pressing the opposition back line to force long balls. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to push forward. Yıldız plays as a second striker in the hole, often looking to cut inside and run into space. The team builds play through short passes from the back and uses the attacking ten to create combinations. This allows midfielders to arrive late into the box to attack the near post or far post.
