Starting Lineup

Mert · Transfer · Svensson (Transfer) · Paulista (Transfer) · Transfer · Transfer · Orkun · Gedson · Tammy · Rafa · Transfer

Besiktas look to play a high press and direct style of football using a 3-3-4 formation. This lineup is built to stretch the opposition and win the ball back high up the pitch. By committing many bodies forward, Besiktas aim to overwhelm the opponent in their own half and create constant chaos.

Mert sits between the posts to organize the back line and sweep behind the defense. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of Paulista, Transfer, and Svensson. Paulista acts as the central anchor, while Svensson and Transfer provide cover on the sides. This back three must hold the line and win the second ball when the high press fails to win possession immediately. The defenders stay relatively compact to prevent being caught by long balls.

The midfield consists of a single pivot and two central midfielders to link the defense to the attack. The Transfer player in the holding role shields the defense and acts as a point to recycle possession. Gedson and Orkun play as two central midfielders who drive forward with the ball and press aggressively to win the ball high. Gedson is known for his high energy and ability to carry the ball forward through the middle. This three man midfield works to compress the midfield and deny the opponent time on the ball.

In the attacking third, the team uses four players to pin the last defender. Rafa and Tammy act as two central forwards, working in combinations to find space between the lines. The wide players, Transfer on the left and Transfer on the right, act as wingers who stretch the defence by staying wide. These forwards are expected to press the opposition back line from the front to force a long ball. The movements are designed to create runs in behind and allow for cutbacks from the byline.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for the opponent to build from the back. Besiktas also benefit from numerical superiority in the attacking third, which can isolate wide players in one on one situations. The high volume of players in the final third forces the opposition to sit deep, which creates space for the midfielders to arrive late into the box.

This 3-3-4 formation is a high risk, high reward system built for aggressive, attacking football. It is best suited for games where Besiktas need to break down a low block or when chasing a result against an opponent that struggles with high intensity.
