Starting Lineup
ΑΤΜΑΤΣΙΔΗΣ · ΔΕΛΛΑΣ · ΚΑΨΗΣ · ΜΠΟΡΜΠΟΚΗΣ · ΚΑΣΑΠΗΣ · ΚΑΤΣΟΥΡΑΝΗΣ · SCOCCO · ΤΣΙΑΡΤΑΣ · ΝΙΚΟΛΑΙΔΗΣ · BLANCO · ΛΥΜΠΕΡΟΠΟΥΛΟΣAEK aims to play a vertical and high pressing game using a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup focuses on winning the ball back high up the pitch to catch the opposition out of position. The goal is to use quick transitions to move from a compact defensive unit to a direct attacking front.
ΑΤΜΑΤΣΙΔΗΣ stays between the posts to command the area and organize the back line. The defense operates as a flat back four where ΜΠΟΡΜΠΟΚΗΣ and ΚΑΣΑΠΗΣ act as full backs to provide width. ΔΕΛΛΑΣ and ΚΑΨΗΣ form the central pair to defend the box and cover space. ΔΕΛΛΑΣ acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks, while ΚΑΨΗΣ provides aerial strength to clear the lines. The unit works to squeeze the space and keep the distance between the lines small.
A three man midfield controls the center of the pitch. ΚΑΤΣΟΥΡΑΝΗΣ plays as a single pivot to shield the defense and pick up runners. In the half spaces, SCOCCO and ΤΣΙΑΡΤΑΣ operate as the two central midfielders to connect the defensive and attacking lines. SCOCCO drives forward with the ball to carry it into the final third, while ΤΣΙΑΡΤΑΣ looks to find the feet of the striker or play through the lines. This midfield group works to recycle possession and win the second ball when the press is triggered.
The attack uses three attackers to stretch the defense. BLANCO and ΝΙΚΟΛΑΙΔΗΣ act as wide wingers who look to cut inside and create chances. ΛΥΜΠΕΡΟΠΟΥΛΟΣ serves as the lone striker and works to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. The wingers press the opposition full backs to force a long ball, allowing the midfield to step up. This formation creates many runs in behind through quick combination play between the front three.
AEK gains a significant advantage through the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By using the front three to trigger a press, the team creates numerical superiority in the midfield once the ball is won. The speed of transition allows the wingers to isolate wide players in one on one situations very quickly.
The 4-3-3 formation provides AEK with a direct and aggressive way to dominate games. It is best suited for facing opponents who try to build play slowly from the back.
