Starting Lineup

The midfield functions as two banks of four to keep the team compact. Mrbrigssy and Swea form a central pairing in the middle of the pitch. Mrbrigssy works to shield the defence while Swea looks to carry the ball forward. On the flanks, Shinra plays as the right midfielder and Saint plays as the left midfielder. Both wide players must track back to help the full backs and then push up to support the attack. This midfield unit connects the defence to the strikers by recycling possession and finding the feet of the forwards.

England employs two strikers in a partnership up front. Zen plays as the left striker and Siryu plays as the right striker. These two forwards work to press the opposition back line from the front to force a long ball. Zen and Siryu look to make runs in behind the defence to receive through balls. The team attacks in combinations where the wide players, Shinra and Saint, look to whip it in or deliver early crosses for the strikers to attack the far post.

One tactical advantage of this 4-4-2 is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs join the attack. The team also benefits from the compactness when defending in a mid-block. By keeping the lines close together, England can easily shift the play and intercept passes. Having two strikers also allows the team to pin the last defender and create space for late runners.
