Liverpool operates with a high press and a vertical attacking identity using a 4-2-4. Ekitike plays between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit utilizes a staggered back four where Salah acts as a left back to help build play from the back. Rodrygo sits at right back to provide defensive cover, while Isak and Wirtz function as the central defenders. Isak is tasked to defend zonally and win the header against long balls, while Wirtz acts as a ball playing defender to find the feet of the striker. This back four must remain compact to avoid being caught by direct balls.

The midfield relies on a double pivot to manage the center of the pitch. Mac Allister and Gravenberch work together to control the tempo and recycle possession. Mac Allister serves as a deep lying playmaker to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while Gravenberch uses his ball carrying ability to drive forward with the ball. They must protect the space between the lines and ensure they do not get bypassed by central runners.

In the attacking third, Liverpool uses two forwards in a partnership alongside two wide attackers. Van Djik and Konate lead the line as a central duo, with Van Djik acting as a target man to hold up the ball. Kerkez plays on the right wing to stretch the defence, while Frimpong operates on the left. Frimpong is an inverted winger who will cut inside to create space for the left back to overlap. The front four press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

This lineup offers significant speed of transition and the ability to create wide overloads. By pushing the wingers high, Liverpool can isolate wide players in one on one situations. The heavy presence of four attackers creates immense pressure on the opposition back line, making it hard for them to play out from the back.
