Louza and Kayembe play as inverted eights who connect the defensive and attacking lines. Chakvetadze plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to create chances. Louza and Kayembe can press aggressively to win the ball high, while Ferreira and Wiley sit deeper to occupy the spaces in front of the two center backs.

The front three provides the main threat in transition. Kjerrumgaard operates as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line. Vata and Irankunda act as wide wingers who stretch the defense. Vata tends to cut inside to find space, while Irankunda looks to beat his man and deliver crosses. The attacking unit is designed to create runs in behind and use the central numbers to play one-twos in tight spaces.

A major strength of this formation is the numerical superiority in midfield which makes it hard for opponents to play through the center. Watford can also use the wide positioning of Vata and Irankunda to create isolation in one on one situations. The team is capable of pressing in coordinated waves to force a long ball from the opposition.
